Hi All, Today is Diwali (New Year’s Day) according to the Hindu lunar calendar. There are heaps of events on at Federation Square. But the most spectacular is the amazing firework display at sunset tonight. See you there (I’ll be having dinner at one of the restaurants)

Diwali is the most popular of all Hindu festivals (also known as the festival of lights). It is dedicated to the goddess Kali in Bengal and the goddess Lakhsmi, the goddess of wealth in the rest of India. It is a significant festival for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains.
The festival also marks the victory of good over evil, and uplifting of spiritual darkness. Symbolically it marks the homecoming of goodwill and faith after an absence, as suggested by the Ramayana.

So that's what all the blue and white balloons were about? I came in to see the fabulous Goran Bregovic and his Weddings and Funerals Choir and Band - a lot of Balkan pride in the State Theatre.
